credit card charges refund

Options
Hello,

When a credit card company offers you a refund on past charges can you ask for it to be paid directly to you? The company in question say they are going to pay it directly back to the card. The card for all intents and purposes is closed (card is expired no new issue no more statements) and the account is assigned to a DCA (1st credit). Dont think the DCA owns the account. Does the refund have to be paid back to the card/ account if it is still owned by the original lender (aqua HBOS)?

thanks

Yes because the charges make up the balance. If you haven't paid the balance then the charges will be refunded. If you'd cleared the balance they would effectively compensate you for the payments you made to the card to cover them.

The money will be paid back into the account and especially if the DCA doesn't own it. Even if you no longer use the card, there is still a outstanding balance on the account so the money refunded will go towards clearing that.

If the account had a zero balance then it would have been refunded to you and not the outstanding account.
