Just a small MS tip : (if it's been posted before I apologise).
I have found that the 'dead' batteries from my computer mouse will power our battery clock for months! So they obviously are not dead, just not enough power in them to power the mouse.
So, there may be other small appliances that can use another appliances 'dead' batteries.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

I too discovered years ago that apparently dead batteries from walkman's, camera's & other such electronic equipment will work for months in battery operated clocks or remote controls.
I now store mine in a bag & haven't bought a battery for a clock for many long years now. :jThe bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
We have been using a battery genie for some 10 years to recharge our 'normal' batteries - usually will get 5 - 6 recharges before they finally die!
