Do you want to be right in the middle of things or just a bit further out but still within walking distance?
The Bilderberg Garden hotel http://www.bilderberg.nl/ does very reasonable rates and is near the Rijksmuseum.
You may also want to check the Ibis http://www.ibishotel.com/ as it's located right next to centraal station and if you find the same hotel cheaper, they'll beat it.
Also, check http://www.nh-hotels.com as they have quite a few hotels in Amsterdam and can be pretty reasonable as well.

I am going to amsterdam in about a month. I checked out the ones above and they seemed very expensive to what we're paying.
We are staying in the amstel botel. I've never stayed there before but am obsessed with staying in hotels that are boats - i don't know why. It is quite central i think also.
We are paying 98 euros per night for a double room. We are paying slightly more to have a water view (i think it's 92 for a normal room with landview). And i booked direcly through the hotel which worked out quite a bit cheaper than these so called discount hotel sites. The website can easily be found by searching on google.
It books up really quickly, which I see hopefully as a sign of it being nice.0 -
I recommend that you use the search function, as there have been a number of recent threads....0

Maybe just that weekend. I've stayed in the Bilderberg and it was €80/night.
I also almost booked at the Ibis earlier this year (early May) and is was €90 but there was something on that weekend and they wanted a 3 night minimum and we were only going to be there Fri - Sun.
Best bet it to try the hotel booking sites like Venere http://www.venere.com/ and Hotel Connect http://www.hotelconnect.co.uk/ and see what comes up!0 -
Myself and my partner visit the Dam at least twice a year and have been lucky to stay in The Jolly Carlton hotel, next to the Floting Flower Market and the Die Port Van Cleve just off Dam Square, bth expensive but well worth it.As for Botel, Sorry if you've booked it, but give it a wide berth. No we stayed there Last month, I gave my boyf a birthday treat and it was hell. The rooms, although adequate are like tin boxes it was so hot the first two nights me and him didn't get a wink, couldn't be bothered to do anything else either, The rooms have no A/C and the fans went out straight away, then there was a waiting list, grrr. We stayed in a cabin to the front, canalview, which i thought would be perfectly pleasant, wrong!! The Botel is connected to the mainland with a jetty, which someone in their infinite wisdom has decided to cover in metal, so all night, and early morning you can hear bang bang bang people walking up and down, riding bikes heels clacking aauurgghhhh!! Get a cabin on the other side of the boat, hmm ok, then you will have a nice veiw of a builing site!!With the added benefit of workmen waking you up daft oclock and having to leave your window shut or have a room full of dusty muck!! This is the first and last time I will ever stay in that dump. The ONLY advantage it has is that its about 10mins from Central station, and if you're that way inclined, free !!!!!!.Suppose it is quite a novelty,to stay on a "botel" but I was ready to cone home after the first night, it must have been in the 50's. The reception thermometer 2 floors down said 41!!No A/C, no confort, no quiet. I'd rather walk 10 mins towards Dam Square and straight into a hotel that although may cost an extra £20/30 you're going to have a much more pleasant stay. Sorry, if you're going.....RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

This hotel is superb. We picked this hotel becuase of the ranking on Trip Advisor. We had been away at the beginning of March to Paris and stayed at a Holiday Inn and were disappointed, we therefore wanted to ensure we made the correct choice for this short break.
I gurantee you will NOT be disappointed.
I made the booking 7 days prior to our stay and spoke to Henry, could not have been more helpful even to the extent he told us to get a return ticket on the airport shuttle bus as it was 6 Euro's cheaper. He advised on most suitable room with a cot.
On arrival despite the scaffolding outside we knew wh had made the right choice.
The staff are all English speaking and could not be more helpful.Within 5 minutes of arriving at our room, there was a knock at the door to check we were happy with the room and a complimentrary gift for our 6 month old son. Never before have I experienced that.
In the room was minibar which was refilled each day (see photo's) and a large decanter of whisky, gin and cognac. Saw on trolley used to fill up that they use Jonnie Walker Red Label and Gordon Gin so no rubbish used.
Room was superb including the large shower cubicle and impressive rainshower.
We had room 410. Even bowl of apples in room and on reception.
DVD player in room, but no DVD's supplied to play although I saw there was a selection on reception on last day.
Free movies included in roon on LCD flat screen tv with surround speakers in the room including the bathroom!0 -
