Open university help?

Hello!
been a lurker for a while and wondered if i could ask for some help/advice.

I would like to do an OU course in Psychology, mostly because it is something that interests me, and it might help with my job a bit!

I am a married mum of one, i work and look after my son so would have to learn part time, household income is low, so i think i should be able to get full funding which is great.

As i have not studied for years (and am short on spare time) i would like to start with a level 1 30 points course and hopefully carry on from there, but someone told me you can only get OU funding once?

would i need to apply for all the courses i might want to do in one go, or would i be able to finish the first course then re apply for funding for the second 30 points course and keep going this way?

I don't really want to set myself up to fail by trying to do too much at once and not finding the time, getting behind etc

Sorry if this sounds dim, any advice would be helpful!

As far as I am aware, there is a limit to the amount of points you can get funding for in one year but its about 120 I think. You can get funding each year for whatever course you wish to do

If you are finding yourself short on time, then a level one 30pts will be a great place to start as its surprising how much time you need - more so if you havent studied for a while. It's all about getting yourself organised time wise and getting into a routine of studying :)

The student services are very good with advice etc so dont be afraid to give them a call. There will also be an online forum once you start a course where you can chat and post messages for others on the same course so don't feel you will be completely isolated. You can be as involved (or not) as you wish.

You get funding for one first degree, not one course. Generally you need to complete your degree in 6 years, but they can make exceptions. So you only need to apply for one course now :)

One degree makes much more sense than one course....:o
So i think i will apply to do the introduction course at 30 points and see how i get on.
Its been a long time since school for me, best take it slow!!:)

You could start on an even smaller scale than this if you wanted. There are 10 point Openings courses (including one on Psychology) which start in June.

It does depend on your income, and your partners if you live with someone, but not your parents'. But yes, if your income is low enough they will fund the whole thing. If you earn more than the lowest limit they may give you part funding.
