A few little questions
Hi all, I hope you don't mind me asking a few questions. I'm pretty much a newbie to any serious veg growing although my hanging basket tomatoes are a regular! here goes:
1. Can I line my hanging baskets with that weed stop membrane stuff? They are for my tomatoes. I can't get any liners to fit and the loose moss stuff is waaaay to expensive!!!
2. Can I use 'grey' water to water my raised beds? (washing up water/bath water etc).
3. I have grown some bean and courgette seeds on the kitchen windowsill. They've grown much quicker than I expected and now need potting on. How soon can they go outside? (I'm in North Lincs if that helps). the garden is quite sheltered. Would they be ok in the garage or would there not be enough light? There's a good sized window but it's frosted glass.
Thanks very much
Lisa x

1. Sounds worth a go - the only thing you'd be lacking is the water reservoir effect that liners and moss provides - you could replace this by getting hold of some vermiculite and mixing that into the compost.
2. Depends what and how much soap products you use - if you use things like Ecover its probably ok, however I suspect plants won't appreciate a good dose of fairy liquid or heavily soaped bath water. Bath water with a bit of soap in it is probably fine if you've been sparing - be wary of putting any on lime hating plants as most detergent is alkali.
3. No idea on courgettes as I'm on my first attempt of those. Some beans are hardy enough to start outside, others like runners can be quite tender. Garage might be a good halfway house for a week or two before putting them outside nearer the end of the month.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
