HSBC Bank Card Embarrassment...

My mum has now had a new HSBC Bank card and it has changed to a VISA Debit.
She has purchased fresh fish from who she calls "the fish man" for many years. He calls round the door.
As usual she wrote him a cheque but it appears this new card does not carry a Cheque Guarantee feature. There is no CG hologram on it. Only the VISA hologram on the back.
It was the seller that noticed this. Does anyone know if her new card is a CG Card? If it is not we will have to change her to a new bank.

No, it isn't. If it hasn't got "the Bard on the card" then it isn't a cheque guarantee card. All banks are gradually withdrawing them, and some banks have already started.0

Ahh well after many many Years of being an HSBC customer they are now looking at an Ex customer.
How is she supposed to pay this guy if she doesn't have cash and he doesn't accept cards?0 -
I bank with RBS and they recently sent me a new card that is Visa Debit rather than Maestro, but it does have the cheque guarantee mark on it - so probably worth checking closely whether your new bank offers it or not.0

How is she going to manage in June next year when the Cheque Guarantee Scheme comes to an end?I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -

All banks are doing this over the next year or two.
She either needs the cash or he needs to accept unguaranteed cheques - or start taking cards. He's going to lose business if he doesn't0 -

You say that your Mum has been a loyal customer of his for many years, yet he won't take an unguaranteed cheque on trust!?!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

My thoughts exactly. :T
The fishmonger should also be advised that he needs to step out of the dark ages and start accepting cards very rapidly or else he could well be phased out along with cheques.:wave:Money is the headache, money is the cure!0 -
