Food Mixer (Not Processor) Recommendation

I'm thinking of asking for one for my birthday, but the cheaper ones don't have very good reviews.

Has anyone got any recommendations?

I have a Kenwood Chef. Not cheap, but it's used every week for the last 18 years, and I don;t expect to ever have to replace it :D

    Penny. x

I'll second that Penny! I'd be lost without my Kenwood - although I did contrive to break the gearbox on the first one I owned ( blamed it on using the dough hook almost daily for ten years or so!) The replacement is now over 25 years old and looks like outliving me! expensive, but worth every penny!

I'm going to break the mould here. I have a Kenwood chef and I don't get on too well with it. I was really excited when it first turned up, but I find it overbeats everything even on the minimum setting. The attachments I have are a pain to clean too.

I bought it earlier in the year because I have RSI and thought it might help, but I now only use it for making butter cream, for mixing fruit cake and making pasta dough. Everything else I do by hand.

Another vote for Kenwood Chef. My mum's from the 70s is still on the go and mine is about six years old now and I wouldn't be without it.

I did have a cheaper one years ago, I think it was made by Swan, and it was really a false economy. I ended up giving it away on Freecycle and buying the Kenwood.
  • Kenwood Chef vote from here too.

If you can ask for an expensive present then the Kenwood would probably be a good investment, but i have this one....I bought mine for £30 from Debenhams about 8 years ago and it is still going strong. I make cakes with it and whisk batters, meringues etc and i use the dough hooks to knead my bread and pizza dough. It gets a lot of use and hasn't failed me yet.
