family fund grant

we have, in previous years had a holiday grant and a tumble drier from the family fund, this year my dishwasher was on its last legs so i requested a new one, within 4 weeks and no news of a grant it gave up so i bought a new one.
now 3 months later i get a letter with a comet gift card for £370 towards a new dishwasher and waranty.
What should i do, i could return it saying its not needed any more, sell my new one and get a better one with their money, phone the family fund and explain my situation and have them take the entitalment away or ask comet if i could have a washer instead (its also on its last legs).
I am cross its taken so long to come through as we missed out on going away this year to afford the dishwasher. (we normally get a caravan on the coast for a few days as money is tight and we have a disabled child).
hope someone can help with my dilemma.

Does it specify that it has to be a dishwasher?
My understanding of the Family Fund Grant, is that as long as the equipment/holiday or whatever, is used for the benefit of the child it will still be ok. I would probably then send a letter to be placed on yopur file explaining what has happened.
    Hope that helps.

    thanks for your replies.
the money came in the form of a gift card which has dishwasher product only on it, it needs regestering with comet by giving them my family fund number.

  • I had a similar dilemma a couple of years ago with a fridge freezer. Like you, I hadn't heard anything and mine packed up so I had to buy one myself. When the confirmation came from the Family Fund I wrote to them and sent them a copy of the receipt for the fridge freezer and they sent me a cheque to cover the cost.

Might be worth going down that route.
  • In reply to scottishf it does apply in Scotland - I'm in Scotland.

Sorry to go off the subject slightly but I'd like to know if anyone knows of a similar organisation to the family fund which helps disabled adults.
    Thank you.

Yes, it applies in England, Scotland, Wales and NI
