Ceramic floor tiles - advice

We bought a load of floor tiles from B & Q last week, and I am not sure if they are going to be suitable for use on a floor.
On the outside of the box, they say the tiles are 10mm thick, which is right for a floor tile, but when I took one out and measured it, it was only 6mm/7mm thick. Although this may not sound a big difference, I am worried about them breaking. I did notice that there were a few broken tiles in the display boxes.
Any advice please on what to do, as I don't really want to start putting them down if they are going to break.

Thanks for that, I will certainly be putting an even coat of tile adhesive on the whole floor, not just blobs at the corners and centres. I was just concerned about the thickness of the tiles, although I suppose once they are fixed down, then there should be no reason for them to crack.0
