Hi, my daughter is making muffins at school and decided from the list that she wanted blueberry ones. As fresh blueberries are expensive at this time of year, I brought a packet of Tesco wholefood dried ones but I'm now thinking that maybe the won't do the job. They are quite hard in the packet and i'm wondering whether thay will stay this way when put in the muffins?
Any advice please?

Can you rehydrate them before she takes them to cook with them?0

Hi ya,
having never made them, so probably not much help, I assume that when heated in the mix, they will rehydrate when cooked??? I use pitted dates that are dried and it works in sticky toffee pud, although they are soaked in coffee first, so alternatively, soak them? I am sure someone with more knowldege / experience / better advice! will be along soon
JexI will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0 -
Not sure, they don't give any clue on the pack apart from they can be sprinkled on your cereal. How would I rehydrate them?0

From hereQ: What is the best way to add blueberries to my muffin batter and how much fruit should I add?A: Blueberry muffins should contain 33% fruit, or one lb. of fruit for every two lb. of batter. Blueberries should be the last ingredient added to a muffin batter, just before the batter is poured into the muffin pan. Avoid over-mixing as it may cause breakage and color bleeding. Fresh, frozen or dried blueberries are the best forms of blueberries for muffins.
Doesn't say anything about rehydrating them; but if you wanted to, you would either soak them in juice or water0 -
Ok, thankyou.Ill try soaking them, better that than dental surgery cos they're like gravel!!0

I soak mine in tea, I don't know why though just have always done it that way!0

So does the liquid have to start off warm and shall I just leave them overnight?0

If it's warm they might rehydrate a little quicker but overnight in cold should be fine :-)0
