Family Dog - Seriously Poorly.

Good Evening All,
Unfortunately today has been a very difficult day.
The family Black Lab, J, has been taken seriously poorly. So much so he is not thought to be returning from the vets.
He had what looked like a stroke/fit but the vet says it wasn't a stroke. Instead he's got fluid in his stomach, so it's thought to be either a liver tumour or a heart tumour.
He is 13 years old and has been struggling to breathe during his examination but he's clinging on. The vet is doing tests tomorrow and then decisions can be made from there. He made it clear J is a very poorly dog.
I'm 23yrs old, known J since he was a puppy when i was 10yrs old. We are all heart broken, which may sound over the top but i can't describe how upsetting it is. When my parents called me i just burst into tears, even my Dad [a typical mans man!] was upset on the phone.
My niece who is four is going to be devasted too, she was only round stroking him yesterday and telling us she wanted to get him a bone for his bday in May.
I just hope he is comfortable at the vets and not in too much pain.
Thanks for reading,

We had to have our dog (16) pts this week and were all very, very upset. But we know that we did the very best thing we could for her, and that she is now in doggy heaven, chasing rabbits and running around in the prime of her life, free of any pain. You know you have to do the kindest thing for your dog - that is what makes you a good owner.0

So sorry to hear your news - we lost our 16 year old crossbreed almost 2 weeks ago - it's a horrible time, I know exactly how you feel. I'm sure he's had a lovely life with you, sounds like he's really loved and well looked after - you will know what to do when the time comes.
Thinking of you.:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

Sorry to hear your sad news, it does break your heart when you have to say good bye to a good and faithful friend and it never gets easier Im afraid.
There are websites for counselling for the loss of your pet.0 -
You and your family's heartbreak does not sound over the top at all: your doggy is a member of the family, and facing the possibility of losing him is terrible.
I do know how you feel. Our dog, who we've had from a puppy, is only 5 years old, and she has Osteosarcoma (bone cancer).
The type of cancer, combined with it's unusual location, means that there is very little we can do for her. Amputation of her limb would not have stopped the spread to her chest and organs, according to our vet, and so she is receiving palliative care for the pain.
We were told in September, when she got the diagnosis, that she would be lucky to see Christmas, so going on that she is doing well.
Dogs surprise you all the time, and I hope this is the case for your little mate. Thoughts are with you all and good vibes being sent for a speedy recovery. Please keep us posted.

Sorry to hear your news- any one who is an animal owner will sympathise. If you want someone to talk to The Blue Cross has a pet bereavement service- free phone- the number is listed at the bottom of the page:

I haven't used the service myself but I know someone who did and found the person she spoke to was very helpful.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
