I was just trying to keep it in simple terms for the OP.

I do know what they are called but the OP may not.

The main Big trip I was tallking about was the RCD that is used on some Cu,s
This WILL trip the whole unit off if earth leakage is detected (and damp is the problem a lot of the time) the Miniature circuit breakers are there to detect over current, not earth leakage.

Yes you are right, the OP needs a visit from a qualified sparky.

I was just trying to help them diagnose if it was a particular appliance causing the fault, (they dont need to pay a sparky if they just need a new fridge.)

I am in industrial maintenance so I deal with big factory electric a lot, but I have no domestic qualifications.

Appreciate your post, Steve, but Shandy was answering me in the way I'd understand.

Yes, the board is MCB. The fridge was new in July 07. I'm wondering now whether it has enough ventilation.

Ordinarily we would have called our old firm of electricians. But as i said before, the owner has retired and we are very unimpressed with the new firm. The sparks had a cursory look at the point and said it must be the fridge, and left. This was in March, after it tripped three times. Been quiet since, until this sequence.

Thank-you very much again, Shandy! I'd buy you a pint if I could!
