Restrictions on taking food onboard a ferry?

Hi,
I am travelling to Amsterdam tomorrow with DFDS. I have been told the food on board is very expenisve and was planning on taking my own in a cool box to save some money. I know there are restrictions on certain foods being taken in to another country but as I am going to be consuming them onboard and not actually taking them off the ferry will this be ok?
Has anyone had any experience of problems etc trying to take food onboard? Its just going to be very obvious with me carrying a big cool box thats all!
Thanks in advance.

I have never had any problems taking food on board but then it hasn't been so obvious as having a big cool box! don't think you should have any problems, just say you have a special diet!travelover0

We do at least 4 ferry crossing a year and have never had a problem with food - always take a cold box. Even been on the Santander 28hr ferry and never bought any food on board.
Yes it is expensive as are the drinks.0 -
Thanks for the info. Will see how I get on. Fingers crossed!0

Drinks ARE expensive, so expect to pay around £3.75/£4.00 per pint of lager/cider, and a little more fora for a Spirit and Mixer.
For a 2 night Mini Cruise, you should pre book the All you can eat Brekky at £9.00pp each way. Fill up with your normal cereals, fry up, yoghurts, etc etc and take bread rolls, ham, etc and make up your bait for that day.0
