Hard water stains - bath

Can anyone suggest how to one remove hard water stains in ceramic baths and how to stop water collecting in the bottom of the bath. I wipe away the water after use, but wonder if there is some way of preventing water collecting (in oval area infront of the plug hole) in the first place.
