Are Comparison Sites cheaper than going direct?

NO - at least not for house insurance!! Went through comparison site couple years ago, the following year was something like £100 pounds cheaper going direct. I questioned this and was told comparison sites give cheaper initial quotes then things like legal cover and emergancy get added on bringing the cost up where if you go direct it is included from the start. I tend to avoid the comparison sites altogether now and still pay what i'm happy with. :)

So it may well be cheaper elsewhere but you don't have a look on the comparison sites to find out?

some comparisons sites add in legal cover to the total cost and some say its an extra £22.99 on top of the quote, ive used comparison sites but for me they werent cheaper for what i wanted compared against the quote i had from DL.

    Go to :

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/

and follow the instruction-links there for either Home or Car Insurance. It shows how to use a combination of comparison sites / direct quotes / cashback sites to get the best deal in each category.

To be honest I haven't compared on comparison sites since and have just renewed with the same company for 2nd year now which I not done before. Initially the renewal quote came through at a stupidly inflated price so before started looking around called them to ask why. Within a few minuites on to them they had reduced it right back down for me.
Wil lbe looking at cashback sites though when car insurance c omes around and shop around like mad, I hate the range of prices you get qouted for this.
