car insurance - problem regards employment qu

Hi,

My Dad's car insurance is up for renewal. He's a full-time carer for my mum who's on incapacity benefit (so he gets carers). He's in his early 60s so we don't know if he should have retired or unemployed as job status. When he renewed it last year they told him to put house husband (as they didn't have an option for his status) but surely that implies that my mum is bringing in the wage? I don't know whether ticking the right box will affect the insurance price or even if he had to make a claim.

    Hi there

"Retired" means not working, collecting a pension and not going to work again.
"House Husband" means not working, not intending to work and fulfilling some or all of the household duties.
"Unemployed" means not working and looking for work.

Carers allowance is not a "wage" so your dad is not "working" as far as insurance is concerned. He's not going job hunting, so is not "unemployed". You are safe with "house husband".
