Wool insulation

Hi, we are looking at putting loft insulation in a house that we are buying and am looking for some advice.
I was thinking of using the black mountain wool insulation, can it be used to top up on ordinary insulation, or do we need to remove the old insulation and put new wool insulation down to the correct depth?
Does anybody have any recommendations where to buy from (or where to avoid)? Also is it possible to get grants etc, I know our council has an offer on insulation, but it is for the rock wool type.
Thank you

It's possible to get CERT funding off sheep's wool insulation but it will probably only be £50 - £100 off. Book my survey has also ogt a 20% discount off Second Nature's PB20 which is 70% wool and 30% recycled polyester and they can access CERT funding too - I haven't seen this offered anywhere else. It's a slightly cheaper alternative to 100% sheeps wool and a brill product - although still relatively expensive.Target of wind & watertight by Sept 2011
