Ours did that when we first bought it , it has a reset button have you tried that? its underneath right next to the where the card slot is.. I think we carefully used a pin to press it and the thing has worked ok ever since...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

As tanith has said there is a reset button, if your unsure how to do it google or go to youtube with your make and model of tomtom and you will see details on it.
Heres a link showing where the reset button is on the TomTom 720 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnkjLnwhkDc

All I can say is good luck with getting it repaired by Tom Tom. I have never come across such disinterested staff for the UK & ROI. Some people on other forums have got better help in contacting Tom Tom in the Netherlands where most of the staff speak perfect English. The man without a signature.0

Also, the Start, One and One XL don't have a reset button - just hold down the power button till it powers on, off then on againSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
