IB & Short course

Hi there

I know I'll need to phone them and ask, but wondered if anyone here could tell me if I'll likely be allowed or not.

I'm on IB, have been for 4 1/2 years now (am on DLA too). I've made a little improvement in my health, but not a lot.

However I've been offered the chance to go on a short course (it's 20 hours, spread over 10 weeks so only 2 hours a week) to update some of my skills.

There is the chance at the end of the course I may be able to do some work from home if my next medication increase has a similar effect to the last one, which obviously I'm really keen on (I'm only 29 and I'm so fed-up of not working).

With the course the person taking it has promised me all the notes and things if I'm not well enough to make one of the weeks so I was wondering if I'd be allowed to do it on IB?

Thank you for any advice you may have. Y

I'm pretty sure you can do a course while on IB. You can certainly do full-time course while on ESA(C).

You are correct NASA, a short course like this would not affect any IB payments.
  • Thank you.

Should I just ring them and tell them that is what I'm doing or should I ask them really?

I hope this is right because it would be great to actually do something. I had the chance last year to do a couple of hours a week voluntary work which could have lead onto a wee job, but they said no which was gutting. Although I can understand their position, as the man said work is work. Thanks Y.

You are usually allowed to do voluntary work whilst on IB.
