Tourist Visa - Canada ?

Hello,

edited to add : I'm an overseas student

I need to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa to visit Canada in the summer and wondered if anyone else has done this before? I've had a look at the Canadian High Comm website to find out how to apply but am hoping to hear from someone who has actually gone through the process and might be able to tell me how it was (best) done. I really don't want my application to be rejected! I have to pay a fee by bank draft in Canadian dollars (never bought a bank draft before, have to find out about this... ) and want to avoid paying all that money only to be rejected :P

Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you need a visa to go to Canada, I thought temporary resident visas were for citizens of specific countries the UK not being one of them.
