Specsavers

I hope I am posting this in the right place!
I bought some glasses from Specsavers approx 2 months ago, they were part of the BOGOF offer. They cost me over £200 for two pairs, this included a non-reflective lens coating and thin & light lenses.
One pair of glasses I have never worn - the day I got then the lens fell out as I was trying them on so I took them back to have them repaired.
Then the same thing happened again so I returned them again. This time I checked the lens wasn't wobby while in the shop and was satisfied it was in securely but when I got home and tried them on I noticed a bit of wire that holds the lens in was sticking out, so, back they went again!
They had the glasses for THREE weeks this time! My mum went in to collect them for me when they had been repaired and now I have looked at them and noticed there is a scrath and chip on one of the lenses. So i will be taking them back for the FOURTH time!!
I am totally fed up with this sloppy workmanship. Specsavers have said that I can have another pair of glasses if I want in place of the ones that have been repaired but this is pointless as there is nothing wrong with the actual frames, just the workmanship and choosing another pair would cause even more inconvience for me.
I am going back to see them next week and was wondering if I can ask for any kind of compensation or if i have any rights? Surely they owe me something for all the trouble I have had?

I agree about the nuisance of all this time wasting. However a replacement pair of a slightly different design might be a good idea. I have to say that I have had several pair from SS and not had a problem, so you'd be very unlucky if this didn't solve things.0

Specsavers have a duty of care with your glasses. It is obvious that they have failed in this duty. Point this out to them on your visit. If you make a loud-enough fuss in a crowded shop then they will do anything to stop you complaining.
I had a problem with them last year when they messed-up my perscription (the opticion basically made alterations to the prescription after I had left the shop), in the end they had to replace a very expensive pair of lenses that I had had made elsewhere to their prescription.Never Knowingly Understood.

My last pair of glasses were almost the exact same style and NEVER had any of these problems.
I just feel like I have been fobbed off and want them to make it up to me!0 -
You have a right to be compensated for any financial loss you have had, so if you can quantify any losses pursue this.
Specsavers are honouring their legal obligations by offering you a replacement, and as you have said, they are normally very good and this is likely to be a one off issue.
Oh and please please please, ignore any suggestions of going in and making a scene/fuss. This is only likely to make specsavers withdraw any goodwill they may offer and ban you from the store.0 -

They owe you absolutely nothing except for a new pair of glasses! Those are your legal rights.
Anything else offered/discounted is solely at their discretion but they could easily say that the damaged pair of glasses is the free pair and therefore hasn't cost you anything in the first place.
'Surely' they owe me something' is NOT the right way to approach this! It just makes you sound greedy!0 -

I'm not the kind of person to go in and kick off! I just wondered if there is anything I can do to make me feel a bit less peed off with the whole situation!0 -
I'd probably explain that this was leaving me reluctant to use them in the future, could they do anything to solve the situation. Even if they are the "free" pair then you are entitled to expect them to be of an acceptable quality. Perhaps you should ask to see one of the Store Directors? This solved a specsavers problem for me several years ago.0

Maybe I have not made myself clear.
I am in no way being greedy. I simply feel let down and made to feel of no importance what so ever from this experience and the lack of care that has been taken with my glasses. It has caused me a lot of inconvenience, including having to wear a pair of old glasses (with the wrong perscription lenses) on and off for the last 6 weeks or so.
I asked this question purely out of curiosity. I don't think they owe me anything, I just want to make sure I know where I stand.0 -

You have a short memory ;-Originally Posted by penny pitstop - Surely they owe me something
so which is it, they do or they don't ?
So you've worn old glasses for 6 weeks or so when you could have worn the other new pair that isn't damaged. Above you stated ;-Originally Posted by penny pitstop - One pair of glasses I have never worn
You seem to be confusing yourself or are you making it up as you go along ?0 -
I am afraid I think this whole 'compensation' business has got way out of hand.
In your case, yes you have had some inconvenience but they have offered you a new pair. At the end of the day, 100% of products cannot be in perfect working order, a certain amount will have faults.
How much money do you think you should be entitled to for your inconvenience so far?You do have rights......but you still need common sense.0
