Different bricks on house and discoloured

Hi,

I have posted about 3 posts today on varying topics regarding a house. This one concerns bricks. An image of what I'm talking about can be found here. It would be good to get some clarification if this is structurally sound, if I will be forking out any money to repairs etc. I am considering purchasing this house.

Many thanks in advance. You've been really helpful so far!

looks like they used common bricks instead of facing bricks.
itll look far better with a coat of masonary paint.
    brick colored.
    Get some gorm.
  • are you getting a survey? a surveyor will confirm whether the house is structurally sound...

As for the appearance of the bricks, you could get the front elevation sandblasted and they will come up a treat, or alternatively a good coat of render painted cream/white will make it look nicer as long as you are prepared to paint it every few years to keep it looking good

Not too worried about the look. Will be getting a surveyor, but it's always good to spot these things beforehand incase I can avoid the extra payments.

I see no problem at all, different batch of bricks a diffrent colour. Adds to the feel of the building.

You seem to have a good variety of colours already. I agree with MX5huggy about the feel of the building. Brick repairs are a pictorial history of the place. In any event, you are unlikely to be able to match your existing bricks. unless you could get some from a local demolished building.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • Am I correct in saying that this is the back of the house, and that the red bricks you can see at the left hand side are on the side wall & the front of the house?

If so this was a common practice years ago, they used common bricks on the back of the house as they are cheaper than the faced bricks that makes up the side wall & the front elevation of the house.

Quite often it's the side wall that has the commons with facing bricks to the front & rear elevation.

    Cheers.
