Partial Settlement of debt on credit report

Options
Hello Everyone

First post but long time user and reader of the resources on here. Have searched for someone with a similar question to me but no luck. So here goes....

Took out an IVA in 2003 which completed all OK last year. Have been trying since then to clean up my credit report with varying degrees of success but now finally, after a years work, have nearly got it done. My one remaining problem is with Cahoot and this entry on my credit report from Experian...

Date of birth xx/xx/xxx
PARTIAL SETTLEMENT 10/09
CAHOOT CURRENT ACCOUNT
Started 12/03/02 Overdraft balance £0 Settled 21/09/2009
Status history U66666666666

Originally the 3 debts I had with Cahoot all had the wrong default dates and I wrote to them on several occasions with no response. In the end Experian also contacted them and they corrected the default dates on 2 of the debts and changed the above account to 'partial settlement' -although this was done with no acknowledgement to myself, I just noticed that it had changed when I got my nextcredit report...

Please can someone advise me if the above will adversely affect my chances of getting credit?? With everything else clear I want to start building up my credit positively. Reading the Experian bumff it seems that it could be taken either way so I am a little confused...

Many thanks in advance for your words of wisdom....

Cheers

Paul

It was added in 2002, therefore by April 2008 the default should not even be showing on the credit report, not even to yourself. Contact experian and equilifax to get these old defaults taken off.
If it still shows it will still have an affect as a default is a default, regardless of its status. But generally defaults over 3 years old have less affect as some creditors only check the last 3 years not the full 6.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
  • Cheers - although the 2002 date is actually when I originally opened the account, the default should be February 2003 when I took out the IVA. What really narks me is that Cahoot have been a !!!!!! to deal with in all this - other companies have been a breeze compared to them....

A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give
or "It costs nowt to be nice"
  • Yes I did but the format it shows on the Experian file is not the same as my credit report - for instance it shows no default date on mine. Obviously I am guessing this is still incorrect and one thing that link has done is give me the address of the data controller for Cahoot which is a bonus. Looks like this isn't over yet ??

    Thanks
