Sounds obvious but why don't you ask the insurance company?

What does your documentation say about 'acts of god'?

Why is it too early to ask them? The insurer will expect you to minimise your losses (having said that I can't see how you can forsee what is going to happen in the next few days)

Get your T&C's out and start reading tedious at it will be.

What if the OP is an atheist ? :D

As far as I am aware there is no act of God clause in insurance policies, just what is insured and the exclusions.

There's nothing to stop you asking now if you'd be covered or not.

'Acts of god' are under the exclusions in my policy.

You wont get any money back from your card issuer plain and simple

The hotel and car rental agent are not in breach of contract, their services are still available to use, its just that you cant/possibly cant get there to take them up.

Lets just hope you manage to get your flight and this ash lifts by then

That had me browsing my policies and there is no mention of Act of God.

I do remember some time ago the ABI saying that such clauses were not in policies which makes sense as its a general get out clause and would cover everything they wished it to cover and more than likely be a unfair term and conditions

Quick google gives "a spokesman for the Association of British Insurers said: 'There is no "Act of God" exclusion in insurance policies" plus other examples

I can only tell you what my own policy says, I don't have access to any others!
