Recover Files ???

Replaced my computer when hard drive failed but there are some files on it that I could do with.
When I try to start the computer in safe mode I just get a screen full of files and the computer will not start.
It is XP if that helps.
Any way I can get into that hard drive to recover my files ???

Remove the hardrive, buy a 'caddie' for it to plug into your usb port (Or its possible it might fit direct into your new computer) then take from there:idea:0

this sort of adapter will allow you to take the drive out then plu it into the usb port of the new one and access the files

I have put the hard drive in the new computer but it will not run.
How do I get into the files if the operating system won't run ???0 -
Your new computers hard drive has its own operating system. Dont swop them over (Thats all I can think that your doing)
use the broken hard drive as a secondary hardrive:idea:0 -
is it a sata drive ??

ahh...
I just connect in the old hard drive so I have 2 hard drives in the computer??
So I am going to need some leads to connect it in ??0 -
sorry forgot
Which leads ???0 -
Depends. Some computers will have the leads in ready (assuming youve swopped them over then you need to see if there are another set of those leads in the computer ready)
You need to determine what type of hardrive the broken one is and whether it will fit into your new computer (also whether you need to buy connecting leads). If it wont fit as a secondary then youll need to buy a caddie to plug into your usb port:idea:0 -
sounds like the caddie might be the easiest option.
Thanks for your help once again RIK0 -
