Loft ladders over 3 metres

Hi, I'm looking to install a loft ladder. It's an old Victorian house with high ceilings so it needs to be over 3m. I'm not particularly comfortable on ladders so I'm wanting something that is not only secure but feels secure. I'm looking at Youngmans and Ramsay online at the moment. Ramsay looks good but it is pricey. Does anyone have any suggestions/tips?

Cheers

  • Hi Libby,
It might be an idea to drop in at your local builders merchants or roofing merchants and aski them for a bit of advice, this kind of purchase isn't always the best thing to make a decision on using the internet alone
    Hope this helps

I got a really nice wooden one from hombase a few years ago for my loft in a Victorian terrace. It looked and felt pretty sturdy and had a handrail on one side (I put it on the side where if I slipped I'd go all the way down the stairs too). Pretty easy to fit - me and Imp did it ourselves. Can't remember the make though. It was around a hundred quid, which I thought was quite reasonable.

I have just fitted a ladder with a ceiling height of 4100mm.
I bought it from Loftsandladders.com. It’s made of steel, very safe and sturdy. The opening size is 700mm x 2000mm. Its goes up and easy. Top quality but expensive.

Paddy says "Its the wifes idea, she wanted two rooms knocking into one"
