Me & my partner are about to seperate, we have a 6month lease on a flat, that I'm hoping to continue living in as I have nowhere else to go.
I'm 21, I earn £14,500PA, however, I'm up to my eyes in debt (£10,000ish) and about to go on a DMP with Gregory Pennington.
Can i get any help towards my utilities and rent?
Paul.

Your DMP will have no relation to your utilities or rent, you will definitely not get any assistance with your utilities however given your low pay there is a chance you may be entitled to some form of housing benefit. That said we are not talking a large amount even if it were to be granted. I believe, and I stand ready to be corrected by other more knowledgeable posters that you may be entitled to LHA, worth looking up (although for a single male under 25 the accommodation entitlement is for a single room with shared facilities)0

A single person without any dependents under the age of 25 who doesn't come from a care background or isn't disabled will get an LHA rate equivalent to a room in a shared house.

The following site will tell you the shared room rate for your postcode. Then go to the Entitled to website to enter your details to see if you are entitled to any benefits.

The calculation is entirely unaffected by your personal debts nor your outgoings on utility bills.
Don't forget you can get a single persons discount for council tax.
Because of your debts, if there is little state assistance for your accommodation, you should consider moving somewhere cheaper rather than get into further debt or risk being evicted for arrears.
If you've signed a joint tenancy agreement, this means the other tenant is jointly and severally liable for the rent during the contract - the end of the personal relationship doesn't negate their contractual obligations with the landlord, nor does their obligation to pay the rent end when they cease to occupy it. Look at the Shelter website to understand your rights and responsibilities as a tenant.
Few people get any direct state assistance towards their utility bills (except for the winter heating grant for pensioners, for example). go to the appropriate MSE board to get the best deal for you with a service provider and get tips how to cut consumption.0 -
Another thing i would suggest relating to your DMP plan, I would advise you write to each of your creditors stating your trouble to pay each debt and offer a repayment plan. This way you wont have to pay a fee for the DMP.0

maybe get an evening job to supplement your income, ie a bar job or mcdonalds or something for a while just to get you through the next few months0
