Travel from Liverpool to Newcastle

Options
My daughter is currently stranded in Germany because of the Volcanic Ash problem.
Long story short, after her flight back on Friday was cancelled Ryanair have booked her on a return flight due to go out on Tuesday. However it's to Liverpool rather than Edinburgh where she originally flew out of.

So in the hope that the airports are open by then we need help working out the cheapest route back to Newcastle. Can anyone advise on the public transport options?

Has she got a railcard? A single ticket on the train is £56.50 without and £37.30 with. Because of the circumstances, personally I really wouldn't want to be tied down to a particular train with a cheaper advance ticket.

A bus/coach (very regular) from the airport to the city centre will be more more than a few quid. There are loads of busses, but the 500 is every 30 minutes stops outside Liverpool Lime Street station. She might need to change trains once either in Manchester or |York
