i moved away when i went to uni. then i moved back in with my parents for 18 months (with my fiance also). we paid very little keep because my parents said we could stay there and save lots for a house deposit. In 18 months we managed to save £17000, spend £10000 on holidays (oops) and pay to get married. So they helped no end.

We now have our own house. But in the near future will sell up and move because of work. My parents have already said we could move back in with them to save more money but i'm not sure how easy it would be as they don't like all my pets.

I always got on with my mom and dad amazingly and they really like my husband luckily. I think, as long as there was enough space i'd quite happily live with them until we were thinking of having a family - not sure hubby would agree though lol.

So many of my friends have said they couldn't stand their parents full time though. I am lucky cos they're like my best friends as well as parents.
  • Some of us aren't lucky enough to go to uni close enough to home to commute, but i'm glad i moved out, even if i'd only been able to move out for the first year i think it's really important.

Anyone moving away from home when they really dont have to isn't in tune with their finances... unless you actually buy a house. Renting when you dont have to is just chucking money away, money which students really dont have.

except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.
