Tree identification

Hi guys, not managed take a picture yet but it looks pretty unique and maybe someone will know from my description.
I have a tree, deciduous, about a metre tall, which is mushroom shaped, and at the top of the straight slimmish trunk a huge mass of branched knots have formed on the top, looks a bit mad! Slender thin branches come out from this which almost touch the floor. Does anyone have a clue??

Thanks brogusblue - it is starting to spring into life with little white tips so I'm pretty sure it is
it's lovely, although very very mingled and twisted knots at the top, I hope it is supposed to be like that!!
If anyone has any care/pruning advice that would be great (first year gardener)
