Hi all,
I removed some old paper from our spare bedroom few months back when we first moved in and now i have decied to start getting it ready to put paper up again.
The walls are not great and 3 of them have been painted on allready so they just need sanding and filling but one wall has new plaster on. How is it best to prepare the plaster wall ready for paper. Someone said dont PVA it at all. Is this ture.
Also the celling how is it best to prepare that as well as it had old tiles on which have been removed along with the glue

What works for me and I am no painter and decorator before anyone shouts at me!!
I always use paint diluted, whether its for a new plastered wall or a repaint. I always dilute 1 pt water, 2 pt paint. I was told not to use PVA for new plaster and some 2-3 years on my walls are fine when I used the above formula on fresh plaster.
If its a newly plastered ceiling then you are probably looking at 3-4 coats to get a really good finish.
Like I said, this has worked for me but I am not a professional (although a professional told me this 20 years ago and i have always followed it!)0 -
yes a weak mix for the first coat. giving a ratio formula is difficult cause all paints are different.
ie with a very thick paint 50/50 is ok.Get some gorm.0 -
For new plaster use contract matt emulsion 1 part water 4 parts paint on first coat then apply 2 coats undiluted be sure to use a medium pile roller and keep to 1 direction to avoid grinning (streak marks) can then be painted with any other paint or left in matt works for me.
