I have asked these questions on another thread but they seem to have got lost. in the thread, so I thought I would start another one.
I am on an occupational pension where I recieve £400 a month
I understand that this pension means I would not qualify for JSA or income support.
I am currently a homeowner but if I lost my home, got housed in council/housing association accomodation, and applied for housing benefit, how much would I get?
Would there be a chance, due to my pension income, that I would not be able to sustain myself if I couldnt get a job?

It is impossible for anyone to answer this as they do not know the full details as well as it being a hypothetical question.0 -
It may be hypothetical, but may become real as benefit laws are getting stricter, and my changes in circumstances mean I get kicked off IB.It is impossible for anyone to answer this as they do not know the full details as well as it being a hypothetical question.
What details do you need, all I want to know, is will I be able to sustain my self living alone, on my pension if I cannot get a job?
Will I get enough HB so I can afford to pay rent and my bills/food?
thanks0 -

It is impossible to say because I do not know how much your bill are now and no one knows what they will be in the future.0 -
If the DWP decide to kick me off DLA and incap, and onto JSA, and my JSA money will be wiped out by my pension, will I still receive the "back to work" help and support, that JSA claimants receive?
I am anxious about this because I will be in a trap.
I wont receive JSA, not many employers will touch medically retired people, so, when I am well enough to work, I will feel socially excluded with no help, and nowhere to live.0 -

If you just sign on for your NI credits you will get the same help as everyone else.0 -
If my pension is deducted from any JSA claim I may make, why, then would it be deducted from any HB/LHA claim also?
Seems unfair to be deducted twice.
Surely the government wouldnt see me homeless or starve in this day and age?
can you help with this please?0 -

They are different benefits.
If you want to know more you need ask the Government.0 -
I came one here to ask.0

Housing benefit is worked out on your income so if you earn more than the applicable amount they can deduct some housing benefit. So if your rent is say £100 a week but they pay £50 you need to make up the shortfall. Theres lots of different calculations though so it would be impossible to give an exact answer as to how much0

Have a look at the Shelter website which has comprehensive information on their website for owners struggling to pay for their mortgage, including how to handle arrears with the lender, the Mortgage Interest scheme, plus others designed to prevent an owner from having their property repossessed (including one where it is bought by a social housing landlord who allows the ex-owner to live there as a tenant).
As regards HB, it is now Local Housing Allowance and there is basic info here

The LHA direct site is here. It will give you an idea of the LHA broad rental market rate for your postcode and size of property. For example, a single person over the age of 25 is entitled to the 1 bedroom rate (but there's nothing to stop a tenant from finding a larger property but the rate is set at 1 bedroom, so if its dearer, they'll have to pay the difference themselves).

You can model certain scenarios in the Entitled To website.0
