Is BT any good for Int'l calls?

I have just switched back to BT from what once was JustSave I think! I had nothing but problems trying to change numbers and disconnecting my old number, I ended up being charged for my old addresses calls for 6 months...
Anyway back to my point... my Mum has moved to France and although the majority of the time I will be using Skype to call her I wondered whether the odd call on my phone through BT would be expensive? I will add her number to my friends & family which will discount it but not having rung internationally before I'm not all that clued up!
Thanks!

BT will charge you 18.5p per minute, while the most you should be paying, if you use a dialthrough provider, is 1p.
Click on 'Int'l Callchecker' about three inches above your post for details of how to use dialthrough providers.0 -

Moving back to BT is generally considered to be a good move as it provides much freedom through which telco you choose to dial. To dial France or any other international number check here:
http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/intcallchecker/index.php
You will see that by using BT to dial France you will be charged 18.5p/min but by using one of the other providers [eg 18185] you would be charged a 4p connection plus 0.5p/min. If you don't want to fiddle around with an Orchid router you could just set up 2 accounts - one with 1899 and one with 18185 [https://www.1899.com and https://www.18185.co.uk respectively] - and make sure you are just with the basic BT line rental (Option One).
Then: for all day time peak calls to 01 and 02 numbers use 1899 [3p connection then 0p/min] and for calls to mobiles use 18185 [4p connection plus 5p/min for peak times and 2p/min at the w/end]. For France use 18185 [no doubt this will get plenty of use!] and for any other international calls use the call checker to see if 1899 or 18185 is cheapest [or maybe even another provider].
A much better explanation you will find here....but assumes you should get a router:

Good luck
