recomend me an ornamental birch - help
hi, i would like a nice tree for the front garden, i was thinking of an ornamental birch??? other ideas welcome too.
maximum height i want is 15 to 20 foot at maturity. i like the white bark on some birch trees. " and im not keen on the weeping type birch trees"
any help is appreciated. ive got 2 trees from the rose family at the moment that just take over the front garden, i have to have them pruned every year and is costly.
hence the reason i want a nice small low maintenance tree.
thanks

Thge himalayan Birch- Betula utilis is wideley available and an excellent garden tree. Check it out at your local garden centre.Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!0

cheers, how big does it grow to please?0

Betula utilis will be too big for your spot. Try one of the varieties like B. utilis "Moonbeam".0
-
what makes you say it will be too big for my garden?? its a large front garden 10m x 10m.
as stated i only want it to reach 15ft maximum at maturity.
the moonbeam advert says it only grows to 9 foot in 10 years, it looks nice but maybe a bit too small??0 -
It's the ordinary Betula utilis that will grow bigger than the 20' you want. We're just about to cut one down - it's way higher than the house. Most of the named varieties are smaller. If Moonbeam seems too small, have a look at some of the others.0

How about Betula utilis jacquemontii?0

How about Betula utilis jacquemontii?
yes i like the look of this one, however different sights say different heights at maturity??? very confusing as i dont want it to grow higher than the house.
are there different varieties of jacquemontii?? seen one saying doorenbos, or a betula utilis var jacquemonth???
your help is appreciated, cheers0 -
"Jacquemontii" is a variety of Betula utilis but there are now a range of sub-varieties of "Jacquemontii" which have been given other names like "Doorenbus".
Some nurseries give an ultimate height; others give the expected height after 10 years but don't make this clear. This site - https://www.hedging.co.uk/acatalog/product_10355.html - is very clear - Betula utilis jacquemontii Doorenbos - 25ft x 10ft (7.6m x 3m) in 20 years, ultimate height 40ft (12m).0 -
maybe i should look for another tree then??? im no expert at all so suggestions are welcome.
ideally i would like it between 15 and 20 foot maximum at 20 years (maturity)?????0
