borrowed something and not got it back

I lent a small laptop to my son and he is not answering his phone.
We don't get on (they treat me like a mug sometimes) but I thought things were getting better between us
Now they owe me a small amount of money and the laptop.
I hate it when people do this to you. I gave him chance after chance, but after this stunt, he can whistle next time he is skint

Can you not pop round to see him and just say you need it back? Its not nice when people take advantage. I hope you get it sorted out :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Well. I got the cash back tonight. They sent a mate round with it.
I shouldn't have to go round for the laptop. I need to get 2 buses there and there is no guarantee they will be in.
I won't be lending them anything again. The laptop was lent so they could keep in touch with me and with friends for a while, till he gets his own fixed.
It's the principal that upsets me. I wouldn't owe to anyone, but for your child to have little respect for their mum, when I have always tried to be there. it's not nice.
My other kids don't treat me like this0 -
Jonty, I have a friend like this. Over the years she has 'borrowed' so much from me and not returned it [or some of it]. To me the worst thing is when they make silly excuses which you are supposed to believe. It's really just adding insult to injury. As he is your son it is up to you if you want to lend to him again, or to what amount, in the case of my friend it's not that I would refuse neccesarily, because she's not a bad person, just a bit of a lame duck, but you have to realise that you may not get it back.0
