I like the idea of dragging and pasting passwords etc. rather than copy and paste as it saves on clicks.
DAK what this means:
'KeePass does not need to be installed. Just download the binary ZIP package, unpack it with your favorite packer and KeePass is ready to be used. Copy it to a location of your choice (for example onto your USB stick), no additional configuration or installation is needed'
I know they have an .exe version but I would like to know how the binary ZIP version works...if it's not installed how does it work?0 -

The zip version is just a zipped copy of the exe (so is a smaller download). So you unzip it to get the exe. There is no installation, you just run that exe.Stompa0 -

I have downloaded the .exe file and have no problem in opening the programme. However the zip version does not appear to have an .exe file so I cannot open the programme0 -
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Plenty of suggestions but are any of them safe? In other words, would an intruder into your computer be able to access the programme being used and therefore all your user names and related passwords.
I'm currently using a Spreadsheet with them all listed - to some extent in code, that only I understand (in theory!). But I'm well aware that my method is anything but safe should anyone have acces to my computer. But I never knew there was an alternative.

i would say keepass is a good as they come, as long as you set the sign in password to not just 1 word, use a mix of upper and lower case, numbers and special characters.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0

Would this work with keepass?
Have the prog on say the c drive. Save the database file to another drive and then rename the .kdb to some other extension say .doc You then just need to remember the password and the new file extension. Or is that taking it too far?0 -
Password Safe is one i've been using for years similar to keepass.

Thinking of the future...Flexwallet and Codewallet are encrypted password tools that have smartphone/PDA versions...so you can type all your information on the PC, then synchronise it to a phone....such as bank card pin numbers, breakdown policy numbers, travel insurance policies..etc.0 -

I to used a spreadsheet to store my passwords and also asked the same questions about the security of KeyPass, this is some of the information I found which persuaded me to change to KeyPass:-
KeyPass uses some of the most secure encryption methods available to date,
“These algorithms are well-known, well-analyzed and generally considered to be secure by the cryptographic community”
Is KeyPass open to brute force and dictionary attacks?
“In the case of keypass this delay is statistically estimated in computer-processing years to be greater than the estimated number of years before the sun explodes”
And as WOO says your initial password helps the security aspect so why not try something like:-
1smysoncalledj0e? (change gender and name to suit!)
1(one) in place of i, 0(zero) in place of o, and don't forget the ? on the end.
I’m glad I changed and must admit I find KeyPass easy to use and it just feels more secure to me.I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes. :doh:0 -
Hi
I've downloaded Keepass and it looks to be a nice package. I've got dozens of passwords and am guilty of using similar variations and worse still sometimes store them unsecured on my desktop. I'm now getting myself sorted and radomising things. In terms of security: if somone nicked my laptop and had all the time in the world to play with the Keepass file, provided I'd used a long strong password, would it stand up to attack?Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0
