I've no idea how long it takes by post, but it took me five minutes yesterday by phone - could you settle the kids to something (watching a DVD to keep them occupied?) just while you renew? Much quicker IMO.

If you have a look at their website and the questions asked on the 'do you qualify' tab, then you should have all the info they need. They already have info on your kids details etc., so you will need to confirm that is the same, and your income for last year.

I made a claim for working tax credit on the march 29 ( sent the forms ) and receieved a payment 15 april so 3 weeks or more but iam not sure about tax credits maybe the same processing time as it done at the same department i think.
  • I always renew my tax credits via phone as at least then you know that they have processed the information. I have previously worked for the tax credit office and know about how many forms just don't get processed properly!

If you are doing it by post send it recorded delivery because if it gets lost and so not processed by 31st July your claim will be terminated and you will be assked to repay everything you received from April2010
