DVD recorder with HDD

I am posting this for my dad, and have no clue what I am talking about, just to warn you :rotfl:
My dad's old DVD recorder with hard driver has broken.
He bought a LG RHT497 at the weekend but is taking it back this afternoon. Before that he got a Toshiba and took that back too.
He wants to be able to record over a long period of time (specifically for recording CCTV when they are away) but the two models he's bought in the past week seem to stop them selfs automatically after around 12 hours despite saying they have a recording time of around 477 hours. Apparently a lot of them do this nowadays.
Does anyone know of a DVD recorder with around 160gb HDD that meets his requirements?
Thanks

Since your Dad doesn't seem to be using the DVD section of the recorder, and only recording to the HDD, it would seem that all he requires is an HDD recorder.
Since he also seems to want this for CCTV purposes, I'm tempted to ask why he doesn't consult someone who supplies and fits CCTV equipment, rather than buying off-the-shelf 'domestic' machines.....

He will be using the DVD player too, it's actually that bit that's gone on the old player.0
