Job Seekers - How many freelance hours?

Hi all

Ive been out of work for 18 months now and claiming job seekers allowance. I had a call from a agency today asking if I would be willing to work a few hours a week drawing up some parts for a company. It would be freelance work and not many hours a week.

How will this effect my job seekers allowance?

Will I still be able to claim housing benifets?

Any advice welcome.

You need to work less than 16 hours pw.

If you live alone only £5 of any earnings are disregarded. If it's freelance they will probably allow you some expenses as well.

As long as you get some JSA you continue with full HB

If your earnings are in excess of your JSA then HB/CTB is calculated on your income

Just to clarify the note above, you may work up to 16 hours but you MUST declare this when you sign. You are required to complete a B7 detailing your hours and earnings and hand it in each time you sign.

If you exceed 16 hours in a week your claim will close and you can make a Rapid Reclaim when your hours fall again.
