Does anyone know if RBS Gold Travel Insurance covers delays/cancellations due to volcanic ash?

I was told to wait until I need to claim before they would agree to pay.
Although if I don't claim from the travel insurance I will claim from the credit card... (or so I hope). If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
I'm not sure anyone will specifically cover it, as it is something that's never happened before.
The question is whether they will exclude it - I think I read somewhere (on here, maybe) that the ABI are meeting to discuss it and afterwards will provide guidance to their members.0 -

There was a discussion on Radio 4, and there was an expert who says volcano eruptions with ash is pretty common, it's just that western Europe is not used it.

What's the point of firing chickens at jet engines, if they can't even survive some ash?0 -

Yeah, sorry - I meant in the UK, obviously! I saw a documentary a few weeks ago where a plane flew over an erupting volcano, and they made no mention of it being dangerous - although I suppose the ash cloud may not have had time to gather at the point they flew over.0 -
I was under the impression that travel insurance won't cover the cost of lost hotel rooms as they are still there and available people just can't get there. If anyone has booked a package the company should look after them accommodation wise. I think one of the big problems is people getting home from Easter breaks who need to be back in work on Monday, is anyone going to pay lost wages ?
I know several people affected by this, heading into and out of the UK.0 -
I think the problem for people is that there is no cover under delayed departure...etc as the flights have been cancelled and that cancellation cover is generally only provided if the insured needs to cancel the journey not the airline.0
