I've just had to pay a hefty fee to wipe out this scam/virus. It comes up as Security Tool, has either a blue or red shield icon with a cross on it. It looks like a bona fida security warning that your computer is being attacked by multiple viruses . DO NOT press download and if it starts to download cancel it immediately. You have to stop it manually as most security precautions on you computer don't even recognise it as a threat. I had full Norton 360 package and it was oblivious to the fact Security Tool had infiltrated computer inspite of closing down automatically every 30- 40 minutes. Hope this prevents anyone else getting caught out.
You can google it if you like, I certainly found out all about these scum far too late and there was plenty of info for the computer literate- which I'm not!

You could have simply visited the Techie board here to get instructions on how to remove it - much more MSE. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Hi Eve
I thought this post would get a better response here
Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

Security Tool had taken over practically everything I couldn't download any spyware to obliverate it. Like I said I don't understand computers- it seemed a legitimate site to me. It was only when its box kept popping up with a clanging sound that I began to wonder if it was something wrong, at first it was just a nuisense. My warning for was mutual computer illiterates. I had my computer completely wiped for £62, otherwise it would have been £104 for files to be cleaned and replaced. I went for extermination as I didn't have anything that I couldn't set up again myself.0

could have removed it for nothing. Always worth posting before paying methinks and there are loads of pages on the net about this0

any personal information you have supplied is now in the hands of criminals who likely will try to exploit it at some point, you should have the card cancelled and keep a close eye on yoour credit file for anyone attempting to use your details for things.
have you tried talking to your bank about getting the payment reversed?0 -
One of my laptops got infected with that virus and it's a persistant little bug ger ! My own fault really for downloading a dodgy torrent. It's also very convincing as it looks much like Windows Defender.
It's difficult to remove because you can't get internet access easily to find the solution and the pop ups just keep on coming. I had to download a small program called rkill onto another computer and transfer it on a memory stick to the infected laptop, ran the program which ends the "Security Tool" process. Then, as mentioned above, you have to use Malwarebytes to get rid completely.
Sorry about the sig at the bottom. Need it for the mortgage board and forgot to deselect it !0 -

Eve, the £62 [ bad as that is ] you paid, was cheap compared to giving your banking details to the scum. Your account would have been emptied and your details sold on within 60 seconds.
Hey we all learn by lessons, it's a daily fact of life, yours was an expensive lesson. Now that it's over come here and ask the community, we are, each of us, only as good as the collective group.
Hope this helps, you are a lot better off than you may have been otherwise, have a couple of beers or whatever. It's right that you should warn others - thanks !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
