Fujitsu Hard drive problems

I recently purchased a 30 gb Fujitsu Hard drive to try and work as an external hard drive and am having some issues.

It is a Fujitsu MPG3307AT

My Packard bell computer(which is running on XP) will not recognise it at all even set as an internal slave or a sole hard drive.

I tried setting it up and installing windows on it but it would only get so far and then stop.

My gateway g6-233 computer (on XP and has already a fujitsu brand hard drive) can see it as a slave hard drive and it seams to be working after I did a full format but when I install it as a external drive in the external case neither of my pc's can use it.

When I connect it my computer sees the usb device etc and goes through the found new hardware. It then does show up in the drive section of the device manager but comes up as unreadable.

If anybody has any ideas I would be grateful.

  • How are you setting this internal drive up as an external one?

Is there any reason you cannot set it up internally?

How big is your primary master drive and how old is your Gateway?

    Thanks

I am using an external Hard drive case to enable me to use it as an external drive.

I have used this case for other hard drives of up to 10 gbs without a problem, it just seams to be this hard drive.

I am wanting to use this hard drive externally to collect data from 3 different machines for storage.

The primary master drive on both machines is 20gb and I did wonder if it because the drive I am trying to use is larger than the internal hard drives. I did try to swap them over and keep the Fujitsu 30 gb in my pc and use my hard drive from my pc as the external drive but could not seam to get XP onto the Fujitsu drive.

I don't know if some hard drives are only compatible with some versions of windows and if this may be a problem.

The Gateway is quite old now however I am not sure how old.

As you can probably tell I have some knowledge of these things but only what I have picked up along the way.

Are you switching the jumpers on it, to make sure it is set as slave/master or cable select..
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
