You are NOT connecting to the internet via blutooth, you are connecting to your mobile phone.
You are still using your mobile to download and upload data so YES you will be charged.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Yes you will get a huge charge. I would investigate mobile broadband if you want to use the internet when you are out and about.

If your mobile 'phone package includes "Free unlimited Internet" you can use it sparingly to provide an Internet connection for your computer.

In September 2008, however, the Advertising Standards Authority, decided that it was acceptable for Vodafone to lie about the "unlimited" aspect of this service and to cap it at 500 MB a month. See here.

You may find this web page helpful in determining the current level of deceit that is in operation.

The risk you run is that if you exceed the limits imposed by the mobile network that you use, you'll then get charged its full data rates – which are indeed expensive.

Either way, if you use it abroad with a British SIM in your 'phone, the bill you'll get will make you think you are being asked to pay off personally the £1.3 trillion National Debt with which Gordon Brown has saddled your children and grandchildren.

(And they'll wreck your credit rating and pursue you through the courts for it if you don't pay it. :( )

Wise move. That's what I did, too: tinkered with it, got it up and running and then waited for the first bill to arrive to check that I'd set it up in a manner that wouldn't have me paying single-handedly for the running costs of Vodafone's corporate jet.

Within the caps listed on the page to which I provided a link above, you can safely do your email and a modest amount of browsing to simple websites provided that you don't go mad and start trying to stream live video.

If you exceed the cap, the greed of merchant bankers will seem pitifully small in comparison to that of your mobile 'phone network.

Tread carefully for the first few months and establish what constitutes a safe amount of usage. :)
