"Access to another car" insurance question

Hi,

I would highly appreciate if somebody could help me with this question.

My wife and I have two cars in household. One belongs to me and another to her. Also, we have two policies and I am main driver and my wife is named driver on both policies.

Now it is time to renew policy on car belongs to me, but I am not sure how to answer the question regarding "access to another car" Obviously, I have access to car belonging to my wife, but it is on separate policy with another company and my insurance company would not be involved in any claim regarding this car.

Also, I am bit confused, as my existing policy which will expire soon says I can drive any car not belonging to me, despite I declared I have no access to another vehicle, so after all, what is point of "access to another car" question if driving another car is allowed by default.

Kind regards

Then you answer "yes". What's the problem?

I don't think this is relevant - it's certainly not mentioned in the questions I've seen.

The "drive any car" extension is generally intended for occasional use, not driving another car-long term anyway. So it mostly applies to cars you don't normally have "access to".

It is impossible to tell what they are actually trying to establish based on the question, but perhaps they think people with access to multiple cars are statistically less likely to make a claim on any one of the cars, as they will spread their risk amongst the cars?

If you have access to another car, you could spend less than 100% of your driving time int he one being insured, so the insurance risk (and therefore cost) may be lower.

Can you be the main driver on both cars? Surely your wife drives hers more than you?

I hope I can. I use one (smaller) car for everyday driving around city, shopping, etc... and another for business nad long (motorway) trips, so I am main driver, no doubt about that.

The reason why I am asking this question is around £30 difference in cost of the policy.

I think (but need to doublecheck to be 100% sure) my policy is more expensive if I select "yes" options for me and my wife, but I do not understand why am I at higher risk if I have access to other vehicles?

Also this is very tricky question as you sometimes may and sometimes may not have access to another vehicle due to various reasons.

Since you have actually got 2 cars insured in your name you have no option but to answer yes to the question. The fact that you have access to more than one vehicle is not in dispute in this situation.
