Confused working out costs for job travel
I'm looking at a job that requires me to do a round trip from Milton Keynes to London Euston and then on across to my destination on the underground.
On the National Rail website I've worked out the cost of the trip every day will be just under £40 a day although with a 12 month season ticket I can get this to about £18.25 (worked out based on an average of 21 working days a month). This would take a bit of doing as I would have to fork out £4,600 in advance (obviously not in the beginning - would look to do this only if the job worked out) but the company may operate a Travel Loans scheme to help me out.
I'll be catching the train before 7am every morning and am flexible to travel within the hour earlier than this, but probably not later (ie after 10am) as I wouldn't get in before a stupid time in the evening by the time I've done a full day's work.
How can I make this cheaper and make it better value? Would a railcard give me a discount?

Unfortunately railcard discounts don't apply to season tickets.0

It may be possible to reduce the cost of travel by splitting i.e. buying 2 season tickets to cover the same route. More information in the Cheap Train Tickets guide on this web site. Also does the quote for your season ticket include travel on the underground? It may be worth checking if this is cheaper if bought separately.
Alternatively think about cycling the final leg from Euston to your workplace. Will probably be quicker.0
