Is it worth just buying dollars or travellers cheques now for spending on a visit to the US in the future (early part of next year)0

"Is it worth just buying dollars or travellers cheques now for spending on a visit to the US in the future (early part of next year)"
Now we're getting into currency speculation!!:rotfl:0 -
The dollar's demise can be exploited on non-US sites. For example strawberrynet.com and cd-wow.com both offer the option of dollar prices, which work out cheaper than Sterling while the exchange rate is at $1.90.
The same can also apply to international sellers on e-bay, who often choose round numbers for buy-it-now prices. However, you need to watch the currency hit by Paypal, which creams off the charge the credit card companies would otherwise take (so a Nationwide card doesn't save anything).0 -
Can somone clarify to position with the purchase of PC components from the US?
Are they liable for import duty, VAT, etc. or do you only pay for the international postage?
What rate of import duty would be is charged on PC components?0 -
As I am currently pushchair hunting I thought I would have a look at Walmart.com just to compare prices after reading this thread - what a shock!!!
Walmart - Quinny Freestyle 3 wheeler (states imported) $129.88
Cheapest I can spot in UK is on eBay - Quinny Freestyle (German Seller) £205.00
Both of these obviously with postage on top but even so, both imported to the country where they are being sold?
Graco pushchairs are the same, the car seats are even worse. Paying twice the price in GBP than what they are selling for in USDollars. So think about $1.90 to £1, then you want to cry, lol!
I am due in Oct, in-laws off to Florida in November, wonder if I can persaude them to bring pushchair back, lol!0 -
Hi all,
I don't know how many of you are bikers, and for those that are if you have a cruiser of any sort particularly a Harley-Davidson and are considering changing your saddle as I just have, then the place to go and get one is from Mustang Seats.
Because of the weakness of the dollar against the pound then a replacement can work out quite reasonable. I've just bought a new set up for my Harley and it cost a total of $746 + $111 P&P, which works out to be around £450. However Mustang also has a European site who quoted me 1141.49 euros (£770 approx) before they add P&P.
I haven't received them yet so I don't know how much in the way of taxes I may get landed with, either way though it will work out much the same as getting a seat from H-D which isn't as good.
Cheers, Cas.0 -
If your into buying CD's, then I have found the small independent record companies tend to try and help you out in the USA
In the 90's when everything was "Subpop" I used to get my CD's direct from them from a "paper" mail order list. I used to send notes via recorded delivery and they always used to put on the packaging that the CD's where a free sample for customs purposes!.
Recently I revisited them to get a new CD on their lable, I paid via credit card on the web site, and they still ticked the free sample box on the customs sticker, and they put in a free limited addition white lable CD!.
Obviously if your into major lable main stream music...no help what so ever.0 -
