What will different election results mean for the house sellers?

Or in other words.......

I am trying to sell my house- who should I want to win?!?

Any of the main 3. The indebted property owning elite seem to be all that matters to them.

Especially the indebted multiple property owning elite.

Support house prices values at maximum levels at all costs.

Fair/Fairness. I'm not sure I want to read or hear that word again after it being used so frequently by all politicians over the last 2 weeks.

I have heard this a few times recently....

One example; I was chatting to a someone viewing the house next door (which is up for auction soon) who had the good manners to knock on the door to chat and ask to see around the back rather than clambering over my (very rickety) gate without asking....and he mentioned the election too in the context of '....well, prices are going to rise after the election''.

So many have viewed next door and each one think they are the only ones to spot it's potential...it's quite funny sometimes. I think I have gossiped with about 15 potential bidders so far as some knock me up to find out who lives in mine (as derelict and looks empty) and are really disapointed that I am not a very old lady who says they can have it for a tenner.
So many mention the election and another house price boom. I mention that it maybe could just be inflation in general but they glaze over then.

One was clambering over the garage roof (and I asked him to tell the agent to make sure back door was shut as someone left it open last week so I had to climb over and close it)...and he mentioned the election too as he wants to renovate rather than knock it down.

OP what difference do you think it will make?

PS DS love the hobbit house.

I think it took me until about 2 years ago to finally accept unfairness in life and that so many things are utterly, totally unfair. I used to get so wired up with unfairness, esp in my 30's when life was really really unfair on every level.

I can't think what changed but it feels easier to move on with things now I have let the feeling go....actually, I can remember what changed...another very unfair thing and we dealt with it in a different way.

Politicians promise fairness but it's impossible to deliver but they can't go around telling everyone that some things will be unfair whatever the policies.

I really personally do not think it will make a difference but a interested to hear others views. I have heard many comments on ''after the election'' recently.
My EA always seems to use things to suggest the market will pick up in a while '' after the bank holiday'' ''after easter'' ''after the FTB rule'' ...........''after the election''.........

.......''after I have lost the will to live and given it away free''......

I suspect it will make very little difference. The Tories tend to be a little more anti-building more houses so prices might be a little higher long term under their Government. I doubt there'll be a difference in short term movements.

If you are looking to sell now on the face it, it would be Labour for me. They will keep spending, continue to support mortgage holders etc until at least next April. The Conservatives have said a budget in 50 days after the election and I suspect some buyers will wait for that before commiting to anything. A Hung Parliament the worst outcome as unlikely the 3 parties will be able to agree on anything quickly and likely we would have another election within a year.

The only problem with Labour is if the markets force them to make cuts etc. As has already been said though not sure too many will be worrying about the election. I know a few buying and selling and the election is having little impact on their decision.

As for EA talk Easter Holidays are always a bit quiet but from next weekend if the weather stays nice the window will be open till the summer the holidays and no real reason for houses not be selling.

I would think the answer lies in which party(s) is(are) likely to cause higher inflation, as - assuming wages follow - that's where the house-owners will win, their indebtedness being eroded.

Damn, I think I've just campaigned for Labour/LDs.

If the Election is worrying people, why is it that houses have been flooding onto the market in recent weeks? Sure, the numbers always go up at this time of year, but there were never 8 or 9 pages in my specific daily Rightmove searches last year. (OK I know I should turn 'em off now, but it's still interesting seeing the old chestnuts re-appear!:o)

People remember very little and most retain only the facts they want to hear, so the news that prices have been rising will have gone in and stuck. A good number will have decided to sell a few months ago, so may have assumed Gordon's Gang were washed up and out of it. Oh yes, and it's 'Time for a change,' 'Things can only get better,' and all that, so it's a season of optimism.

Personally I can't see much change on the horizon. Money will stay tight and our country will be heavily in debt, the servicing of which will cost. As fc says, some will not let this hold them back and succeed in spite of things. Good job too - we need them more than ever.
  • Not much the property market will carry on as it has done before in this order boom-crash-boom-crash and on and on

Depends on what you consider to be positive about selling your house.
Do you want higher prices or lower prices? This will depend upon whether you are upsizing, downsizing or trying to sell a second property.
