Depends where you are. For instance I'm near the proposed route of the Crossrail East-West London line. The Tories have refused to commit to continuing this project, only that they'll cut everything in sight. This project, once complete will only help house prices for me, due to the ease it will allow commuting to the centre of London and relief it will offer to the other over crowded tube lines.

I really personally do not think it will make a difference but a interested to hear others views. I have heard many comments on ''after the election'' recently.
My EA always seems to use things to suggest the market will pick up in a while '' after the bank holiday'' ''after easter'' ''after the FTB rule'' ...........''after the election''.........

.......''after I have lost the will to live and given it away free''......

Maybe it's a bit like 'When I lose a stone'' or ''When I have more time'', ''When I move to a bigger place..and have the extra space to do XYZ'', ''When I meet Mr/Ms Right'' and so on.
Humans love a reason for things (esp for positive things in the future) so your local EA is just tapping into that psyche maybe?

Well....another dreamy couple viewed next door today and want it as a home and think that it is a total bargain. EA has put the auction guide price very, very low. I hope they get it...but they didn't look outside at the knackered gutters, roof and lean to.

OP; Don't lose the will to live:o....rent it instead and move anyway...into rented value like for like. Little bit of extra hassle but we did it and worked out OK.

    Very sage words.

You find so very many of the bears on here with the "soooo unfair" attitude of some surly teenager.

I was like that too until I saw that house prices couldn't drop much further than they were in Q1 2009.... and don't tell my dh, but I was right AGAIN

    :T

i think you are in for a shock....what happens when the taps gets turned off... and the reckless and !!!!less find out the tories are still the nasty party...
    f-eckless
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

My teen daughter is an expert on unfairness. The biggest unfairness is that she knows people with loads of money to spend on stuff, big houses and time for lovely holidays....and it's soooo unfair.

Prices will fall after the election whichever party gets in; Labour's only been interested in propping up prices short-term so it can get through the election.

Once that's out the way, no party can afford the kind of money that's been thrown at the housing market recently for more than a few more months. And rates are going to rise.

    So prices will fall.

So many have viewed next door and each one think they are the only ones to spot it's potential...it's quite funny sometimes. I think I have gossiped with about 15 potential bidders so far as some knock me up to find out who lives in mine (as derelict and looks empty) and are really disapointed that I am not a very old lady who says they can have it for a tenner.

Great story fc, for many reasons - insight into market around you for that house, the way you're finding people thinking - including those who think prices are going to boom from here and who will be the people who provide competition and supports to values in any falling market - and very funny. :)

The hobbit house. As you know, I'm planning to build myself a little scale model hobbit house, using cob (earth/clay, straw, sand, water). Building it in a ice-cream sized tub full of earth or something.. digging out the foundations, then use the very same principles, and materials/cob mix, all the setting the bricks into position + roof. For the experience and understanding of the construction. I think it'll be a fun Blue Peter style project, and help provide some real insight into how to go about building a real cob house.

Not that I've got my heart set upon living in such a cob hobbit style house as my own home in the future, although it might be fun to live in for a while. I'd like to be part of a team building a real one for fun though, for someone else, at some future point.

Ca what you have to realise is that London is "double" the rest of the UK.

It's it's own little bubble where 10% of the UK live.

For the other 90% things aren't quite as bad as you paint them and in general not a lot worse than they have been wages v mortgage.

I think prices will stabilise for a few years and rates will go up.

What i will say is London is far more expensive that it was 20 years ago in comparison with the average. It may depend on foreign investment and government policy's on which way that swings.

You'd never vote against Labour but they may not be doing the best for your situation. :A

I'm expecting inflation to play a big part of sorting the mess out, especially if the torys get in.

I spent the afternoon with a good friend today and we went through the pros and cons of each.

I confesss GB's policies would be better for our situation at the moment. Doesn't change the fact that he winds me up but his economic policy is deff better for our situation as it is right now.

So....do I vote for me or for my children as Cameron's policies may be better for the future??? It's a hard one.
