It's an exciting day today, fingers crossed today we exchange contracts on the old factory we used to work in :j the business own about a quarter of it, but thanks to dh we got a buyer willing to pay a lot more than first thought, enough to pay a big deposit on the brand new unit we are in now. it's only taken four years of fighting and court cases with the other parties to get to this point! Fingers crossed it actually happens :D

Less exciting is the fact I just went on the cruise website, and p and o have reduced the cruise we booked the other day :( we got a great deal at £299 each for a 3 night full board cruise with balcony cabin (usually much dearer around £5-600) it's now £200 each  gutted, as I waited and checked for weeks looking for the cheapest price and as we are going in three weeks thought I'd better just book it , I don't think I'll mention it to dh ;) if anyone does fancy a very cheap short cruise they now have 2 nights from £129 each, which is a brilliant deal for a proper cruise line.

First rule of booking holidays - book at a price you are happy with then NEVER look again :(.

Hope all goes well today - is that the last of the legal shenanigans?

That is so true, particularly with cruises.

There's advantages with booking really early, as you get exactly what you want - the right dinng sitting and you can pick your cabin. You'll pay a little more, but you know you have your first choices

When you book the late deals, it's more of a lottery.

You might have your two weeks booked off work, and be watching prices on the cruise that you want only for it to sell out before you decide to book. Or, as newgirly found out, you think the price won't drop any further, and then it's lower next week. I liken it to buying clothes in M&S. You get something you are delighted with, only to go back the next day and it's half price in the sale.

When you book late, you don't get a choice of dinner sitting or cabin, but you can get some very good deals.

£129 for the two days cruise is an amazingly good price. I'm a P&O veteran, and I can't recall such a low price.

If we didn't have things going on right now, I'd book it myself!

We have exchanged contracts :j lots of last minute problems but we got there. GG there is still outstanding stuff left to sort out but hopefully within the next month the sale of the building and the ownership of the company will all be dealt with :)

Goldiegirl, we went for the cheaper booking choice so can't choose dinner seating or cabin, I thought we would chance it but upgrade to a balcony to see the differnce. If we are lumbered with the odd couple at dinner (like last time :rotfl:) we will eat elsewhere :D

I have a great day planned , lunch with my friends -2 x courses in a pub nearby for £6.50 each. I need to make the most of seeing one of them as she is moving back to her home on Thailand soon permanently after spending the summer here :(

Glad the exchange happened. I know events at your DH business have been very stressful in recent years. Are you still looking to increase your hours?

That's a great deal for lunch, enjoy. You can't say no for that price. I remember turning down a lunch invite when really attacking the mortgage, life is too short!

Hi cath I've offered to do more hours but at the moment we are ok. Longer term dh is getting an apprentice in who will be partly doing my job too, the first trainee since dh started when he was 15

I can't say I'm sorry really, I like working part time , more time to go to the pub for lunch :D

Part time is a nicer balance. Good news about apprentice then, full time pay is lovely but there is no time for the nicer things in life.

How is it Friday already? Oh well, I'm out tonight with some of the people from work, we are going to a Turkish restaurant with belly dancers :D it's quite reasonable and will come from the £1500 budget. I've done a little top up shop from mr t last night and only spent £20, including £1.08 on 2x large packs of mince and £1.10 on 3 x steaks all yellow stickered, dd has also taken to the value chocolate mousses which are 18p for 4.

I'm strongly feeling the urge to spend some money/time doing some work on work on the house, aside from the loft room no room is completely finished. The kitchen is the worst but I would rather do a makeover than a re fit at this stage (ideally an extension eventually) we replaced work tops sink and taps a couple of years ago, but a couple of the cupboards are mouldy from a leak, the dishwasher is broken. It looks ok all in all , just a bit tatty :o I'm wondering whether to use some of the money I will save from the £1500 until jan challenge to buy some new cheap doors and a dishwasher. Bq are doing replacement doors that are the same range in modern plain gloss for around £23 per door which is pretty cheap, I might have to go and have a look. :D
