I have been busy inputting figures into the OP calculator and have realised that I have only knocked one month off the mortgage
I must have entered the figures wrong last time I was on there as I thought I'd knocked off 2 months already. We have op'd by £1843.12 this year so far, I can't believe we've only reduced it by a month. I'm feeling a bit fed up now.
I'm going to have to update the figures on my signature, then i'm going to have a little sulk!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Hi Newgirly,
just been catching up, i must say that i keep finding myself with the same dilemma re improvements and OPing
We had a new kitchen last year and we managed to do it extremely cheaply and it looks great, it still needs a few finishing touches like something down on the floor and a bit of boxing in, it also needs a few scrapes touching up but i love it.
Re the carpet - last week i decided that enough was enough with my hallway carpet and i ripped it out. It didn`t go to the edges of the room and it was all frayed and worn through in some parts but i really had had enough, even the underlay was in a nasty state. The final straw was when DH fed the younger dog something that she wasn`t supposed to eat and she made a mess - sorry if TMI
I went down to carpet right and they had a kind of felt backed carpet very cheap and on offer too, managed to get a piece for just over £20 and i managed to fit it myself too :j It doesn`t match the stairs carpet by a few shades but it looks so much better than it ever has in there so i`m really pleased. This kind of carpet doesn`t need underlay either so double the saving. There was even enough left over to make a couple of mats too so i`m very pleased.
I started off looking at roll ends but couldn`t believe the prices that they were asking for even the smallest pieces so i`m glad that i looked around in the shop. I just checked and they don`t have the cheaper ones on the website but well worth calling in if there`s a branch nearby.

Thanks for the info on the carpet Sunnyday,I might look into it if the hall carpet doesn't come up well after I've scrubbed it.
I thought I'd treat us all today and try and get sky movies for a couple of months so we can watch lots of films over xmas. I rang them up hoping to maybe get a special offer but there arn't any, I'm not even sure if you can sign up for such a short period.
I definatly want to get the humax box in the future, but knowing DH it will end up being as well as sky!
I haven't done much in the way of moneysaving lately, except DH's work van needed the AA and he had to renew the policy (it goes on the business) so I stopped him doing it there and then on the phone , and I did it online in 5 mins and got £50 cashback.:DMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Hi, I have being following your diary with interest. Keep up the good work.
One thing i remember from my last bout of enthusiam with this site(fell off the wagon slightly during the summer) was people mentioning the free month we get with our council tax. We don't pay any in January each year as it is calculated over 11 months instead of 12. Not sure if all councils do this tho????0 -
My DD has a very very tiny box room Pammy and she is 13, when we moved in we had to move the wall and take 2ft from our room as we could not fit a bed in it! But she LOVES her bedroom anyway , even more now its been decorated and has said she would not want to move house so she could have a big bedroom as she likes it here.
can she talk to my DD then, She keeps going to friends houses that have huge bedrooms and laptops and 3d tvs etc. It makes me feel like a failure sometimes, but then I think I dont want spoilt kids who get everything they want.MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987

Pammy, my DD feels hard done by in lots of other ways! One of her friends had a stretch pink limo and a photo shoot for her 12th birthday, and I can think of many other crazy examples.
You are doing better than most I think, I don't warm to spoilt kids, and a secure future for you all is one of the best things you can do for them.
I am currently getting grief from my 2 ds's as nearly all of their friends have the new call of duty black ops game (cert 18) and they are 10:eek: Sometimes I feel proud to be a bad mum!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
sadly from reading other people's diaries it seems like a long time before OPs seem to make a siginificant dent in reducing the term.
Just think of all the lovely things you'll be able to do with the interest saved :jknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
I have had a busy few days, I have nearly wrapped all the xmas presents this weekend. The house has been turned upside down looking for them! we went to see harry Potter today which was great and a kids party yesterday.
I have spent quite a bit lately, but have also saved a little bit. I was going to buy a humax hd recorder box so we can record stuff over xmas, with a view to maybe getting rid of sky in the future (kids and dh very against though!)
So I did a click and collect at comet where it was cheapest, when I went to collect I asked them to just check and see if it records sky channels, which it did'nt so I left it. So when then rang sky to price up a box which they said was free if I subscribe to HD for another £10 PM plus £60 fitting. So I said I'd cancel and they put me through to cancellation dept who offered me the hd + box for free with free installation, and I don't even have to take the £10 pm hd subscription extra channels, so I went for that,am very pleased and have not told Dh so it will be a surprise when its fitted on tuesday.
My laptop has a virus at the moment (probably DD's fault !) so I am only able to use DH's work one in the evening, and it like losing an arm, I hate not being able to check in whenever I want to.
I'm sure that not being on here for the last few days has something to do with howmuch I have overspent!
I am going to go through the accts tonight and update tomorrow, hope evryone is having a good weekendMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
I know what you mean, if my internet is playing up its like I have lost my limbs!!
well done on the sky. I bought a freeview plus box and its brilliant, especially at the weekend for watching progs we have recorded instead of the rubbish wkd tv!
I am the same with presents, I went shopping yesterday and went into QD and saw some things I thought I have got at home but I havent wrapped them the other day so I have no idea where they are lol. I best try and find them!MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987
